Hi

I have moved to France and am keen to race in cote de montagne. I live in Le Bugue in the Dordogne.

I am happy to travel and I have a MSA national 'A' licence for sprint and hillclimb.

I would like to race as a 'Demonstration' entrant for my first season.

I have raced in the UK in the ASWMC hillclimb championship for the past 4 years.

My car is a highly modified Peugeot 205 gti, 235bhp, throttle bodies, Syncro box, and custom suspension
running on Avon slicks.

I am busy trying to learn French but progress is very sloooooooooow! so for now I need to converse in English.

Ideally I need to make contact with racers so I can ask (possibly stupid !*!*) questions.

Hoping for replies

Andy

As a former ASWMC region hill climb competitor, I'd better let you know "hill climb" is "course de cote" in French (litterally, "race/or track on a slope" )(with an accent on the o in cote, but I'm using a UK keyboard...!). "Montagne" tends to be used for the major championships ie "European Mountain Championship".
A lot of people express interest and it would be useful to compile a list of "NEAFP" events - National (Nat A in UK terminology) events with authorised foreign participation. Since under the revised FIA rules it costs a large fee, I believe, unlike rallies, many hill climbs cannot afford the cost. Look at events near borders, which are more likely to attract foreign entries. The only option to enable you to do regional events is to take out a French regional licence (which means not taking out an MSA licence of any kind).

Arques les Batailles near Dieppe used to but I don't know if it runs now. Take care with "demonstartion runs" in checking the insurance is exactly the same as provided to full competitors.

Messieurs,
Merci.

Andy,
Not sure if we have been in contact before?

I have been competing on the French hills for several years so may be able to help.

I am one of the organisers of St Goueno hillclimb in Brittany and manage the overseas demonstration entries.

My advice is to forget your MSA licence and get your self an FFSA one, your 205 should be able to run in groupe F2000 with a few mods.
All the info you need is on the FFSA site but naturaly is in French, the Google translator works quite well and is free.

Generally speaking French hillclimbs events are much better than the Uk ones particularly the on social side.

Most events welcome demo's just ask the organisers, again you the FFSA site has all the contact details.

On the insurance front 2000rs is right in saying check ....... the entry fee includes the insurance premium, usualy around 90 euros per car on a national but ask if the organisers if they have cleared it with the insuers that demo drivers are covered.  The FFSA competition licence covers you for injuries to yourself wich is another good reason to get one. In 2005 I spent 8 weeks in hospital due to a racing accident so can vouch for it!

If you want to get in touch dont hesitate.
