The cars in the rally was with chassis numbers:  
 
9113300789 - Test Car - this car was one of the first Porsche Carrera RS - Number 6 - driven by B.Waldegaard at 1972 Tour de Corse Rally. At Porsche test truck this car was with the old Livery(White-Red), but at Africa the car was repainted in yellow  
 
The other 3 cars with MARTINI livery was brand new:

911 Safari Floating Technique
 
Dr. Eric Brandenburg demonstrates the unique way of crossing deep rivers with a Porsche 911 Safari (build solely by himself).
Note his Co-Driver Stephan Preuss wading through the water on foot.
This was filmed during the last special stage in Mongolia during the Transsyberia 2007 Rallye.

Modifications to the new car included structural reinforcement and beefed up suspension (particularly at the rear), the ride-height being jacked up to provide a massive 12-inches of ground clearance.  Weight was cut to 1080kg and the SC Rally's three-litre air-cooled flat six tuned to produce 280bhp at 6800rpm. Externally, the old ducktail spoiler from the 2.7 re-appeared, each car also being equipped with bull bars and auxiliary spot lights. Then they were painted in the familiar livery of the Martini & Rossi drinks company, white with red, blue and black stripes. Four cars were originally built, two of which were taken to Africa for Vic Preston Junior and Bjorn Waldegaard. Despite both cars suffering driveshaft failures, suspension problems and long delays in the service areas, Preston Jr. took second, Waldegaard eventually recovering to fourth having initially looked set for victory.

Nach außen, die alte ducktail Spoiler aus der 2/7 wieder erschienen, jedes Auto auch mit Frontschutzbügel und Hilfskräfte vor Ort Lichter. Dann wurden sie gemalt in der bekannten Farbgebung der Martini & Rossi Getränke Firma, weiß mit roten, blauen und schwarzen Streifen. Vier Autos wurden ursprünglich gebaut, zwei davon wurden nach Afrika für Vic Preston Junior und Björn Waldegaard. Trotz der beiden Autos Leiden Antriebswelle Ausfälle, die Aussetzung Probleme und lange Verzögerungen bei der Service-Bereiche, Preston Jr. den zweiten, Waldegaard schließlich erholt sich bis vierter, die ursprünglich aussah, die für den Sieg.
