FRANKFURT (AFX) - Volkswagen AG has concrete plans to enter the Formula 1 motor racing championship, weekly magazine Stern said in an extract from its Thursday edition, citing VW incoming management board chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder.
"Everyone knows that I'm a confirmed fan of Formula 1," Pischetsrieder said.
He said however that even if VW was to decide now to join Formula 1, "we would only be out there in three, four years."
He did not say whether VW would seek to enter a full team or simply provide a car or engine.
The magazine said, based on information from sources, that VW has already developed an engine that can be used in Formula 1 but still lacks its own team.
